Well Worth It!
Shingles is so painful. My sister had it twice. I didn’t want to risk getting shingles. I talked to my doctor about my concerns. She suggested the shingles vaccine called Zostavax. I had to pay for it out of pocket which cost me almost $200. However, after seeing what my sister went through with shingles, I felt it was well worth the cost. I was a little sore in the area of the injection, but nothing too bothersome. I had no side effects from the medication. I feel that getting the injection is definitely better than getting shingles.

Decreased My Shingles Outbreaks
As a child, I had chicken pox. In my 40s, I started having shingles outbreaks lasting about a month at a time. The outbreaks are extremely uncomfortable and painful. I had the Zostavax injection two years ago. Since then, my outbreak frequency and severity have decreased significantly. My doctor explained to me that the Zostavax injections do not totally guard against shingles but decrease the risk by about 50%. I feel as though the medication has been very effective and reduced the shingles outbreaks and symptoms by at least that much. I think it’s been better than expected.
