After my first diagnosis with Myastenia Gravis in 1996, I tried a couple of drugs but the side effects were too much than my symptoms, my doctor prescribed Mestinon and the first period, I had to cope with bowel irritation and stomach cramps. It sure takes some time to get used to and your body to adjust. I think it also has to do with the dosage. I started with a 90mg four times a day and the effects was too much my doctor reduced it to 30mg four times a day, I take two tabs in the morning, and take it slow since its when much of the drug effect take place and once they wear off I am good to go. There are no pains associated with muscle twitching, I have more control too and basically can get through my day. You need to eat before you take the drug, not on an empty stomach.
I have been on Mestinon for three years now, at first, it was pretty quick in killing the pain. I had several bouts of stomach cramps especially in the early morning and I was told it is because I take the drug on an empty stomach. On a full stomach the cramps are less and it is even better when you take it with plenty of water, it dissolves faster.
