The taste is terrible
I was prescribed Kayexalate for high potassium in the blood. The medicine was supposed to be consumed 2 times daily and was in powder form. I was really scared of the side effects as had heard many people say that these type of medication can cause major health related issues. The medicine did cause me to have rapid heartbeats and fatigue. But other than that I was fine. The taste was terrible and had to take candy or other sweet product to relieve the taste of the medicine in my mouth. My doctor restricted me in taking chewing gum or frozen desserts after the dosage. But I once took it and had an upset stomach for many days.
I also don’t feel like eating much especially after I take the medicine. But it must be related to the bitter taste of the medicine. But the medicine has worked well for my problem. It has decreased the levels of potassium found in my blood. I have been taking it for 5 years now and looks like I’ll be on it for a long time. I would highly recommend it to others with similar problems. Hope it helps others too.
