I have been on Rocaltrol for three years now and I can only wish I got it better since the first one year after my surgically induced hyperparathyroidism was a mess. I had severe muscle spasms, frequent chills and much of my body was numb completely hampering my ability to do even the smallest of tasks. My doctor told me about this new synthetic Vitamin D drug which absorbs better than usual Vitamin D. It took time initially for me to notice any improvement since I first had to clear the Vitamin D toxicity. An Effective and Tolerable Way to Manage Hyperparathyroidism
Having lived with hyperparathyroidism for ten years now I can say this drug has literally saved my life. I started with it from the start and in two months I no longer experienced the severe symptoms I used to have. At first I had bouts of headaches but these have gone with time. I have not experienced any side effect. It is important though to have your calcium levels monitored and have the doctor change your dosage accordingly. Personally I have gone through various dosages depending on the severity of the symptoms but for the last two years I am doing okay with just 0.24 once in day which is far less than the 0.5 mcg I used to take twice daily.
