Sotylize is a beta-blocker used to treat a specific type of heart arrhythmia called sustained ventricular tachycardia. This condition is an irregular heartbeat that causes a series of faster than normal heartbeats lasting longer than 30 seconds. This can cause dizziness, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fainting. The doctor may prescribe this oral solution for other heart rhythm conditions. Patients need to be careful when measuring their dose of this liquid medication. People should never use a regular kitchen spoon to measure this liquid.

At minimum, the first dose is given in the hospital where the patients reaction and heartbeat can be monitored. Sometimes, more than one dose of Sotylize is administered in the hospital. While taking this medication, your doctor may want you to have certain tests to monitor your condition including blood tests and electrocardiograph (EKG). It is important that you not take any antacids within two hours before or after taking Sotylize. This medication has some common side effects including dizziness, headache, slow heartbeats, and feeling tired. If you are taking Sotylize, you should call your doctor immediately if you have a headache with chest pain, trouble breathing, a light-headed feeling, dry mouth, loss of appetite, swelling, unusual sweating, slow heartbeats, or severe diarrhea or vomiting.
