Guards Against Infection
When I had to have chemotherapy for breast cancer, the doctor told me that I would be getting an injection the day after chemo to help protect me against infection. After chemo, the body is susceptible to infection. An infection can be fatal. The doctor warned me that Neulasta can cause bone pain and achiness. He told me to call if I experience pain that is not well managed by ibuprofen, and he would give me a stronger pain reliever by IV. He reassured me that untreated pain was not acceptable. I did not have severe pain. Right after the injection, I experienced flu-like symptoms and mild achiness. About five days later, I had a backache. The ibuprofen worked well for that. I know some people experience severe pain. I would discuss pain management with the doctor rather than refusing the medication. Neulasta is very important to guard against infection. There’s no reason why someone would have to choose between excruciating pain and the medication needed to protect them.

Worthwhile Treatment
This medication is not easy for me to take. I get a lot of pain in my bones. I had to take Neulasta after chemotherapy. Whenever I get an injection, I know I need to get rest and take pain relievers when I get the bone aches. I would rather deal with this side effect than be prone to infection, so it’s well worth the temporary pain and limitations.
