Comments from Ari Marcovski
Ulcerative Colitis is an auto-immune disease. Auto-immune diseases are caused by a malfunctioning immune system. Since 75% of our immune system lives in out gut, what we intake and what we do not intakei into our gut (i.e. food and nutrients) IS CRITICALLY IMPACTING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM and causing it to react poorly. Thus failing to maintain the proper gut flora IS THE PRIMARY CAUSE of gut diseases and may other maladies. Thanks for Ari Marcovski valuable suggestion.

I received a letter from Shire letting me know the Lialda discount card I have is no longer valid. Without it, my prescription is $142/month. I am retired, on a fixed income and this is prohibitive. I tried the generic Melsalamine and I am one of the small percentage of people for whom the generic drug does not work. What are my options?

My pharmacy coupon just expired and I had to pay $90.00 more. Are there any coupons for 2018 for Lialda? I see my dr next week and I cannot justifying paying this much a month for one script – so might have to find another pill if I cannot find another coupon for this drug. thanks Elaine

Shire, the manufacturer of Lialda, discontinued the Patient Assistance Program as of Oct 31, 2017. I just spoke with a rep who confirmed this and stated they were given no additional info to assist patients who have been contacting them/Shire. Without this assistance program, CVS advised the cost will be $737/month. It appears I just became a member of the “unable to afford Rx so no longer taking the medicine Club.” Good luck to other “Lialdans.”

Me, too. Without the discount, I will not be able to afford the medication. It is so sad that even the working class can no longer afford medication.
